Ed Parker (Help for Heroes) to switch on lights for 2011

This year we are thankful to Ed Parker who has kindly agreed to do the honours of switching on our Christmas Lights.

Walking With The Wounded supports charities that help injured servicemen and women, rebuild their lives – looking beyond immediate medical care and short-term rehabilitation to the challenges of reintegration and retraining.

Visit their website: www.walkingwiththewounded.org.uk

Lights to be switched on at 6:45pm this year

It was agreed at the last committee meeting that this year the lights will be switched on at 6:45pm. This gives a little more time for the build up to the big event.

At 5:40pm there’ll be a live link up with North Norfolk Radio (and music). The Seaside Special team will appear on stage for a 15 minute slot. Following the Gresham’s School choir will be a short interview with this years celebrity. After the switch on and fireworks will be half an hour of live rock music.

Holt late night opening – Wednesday 15th December 2010

Following the market research carried out on behalf of the Christmas Lights Committee resulting in more than 90% of the independent shops in Holt expressing a wish to try a late night opening during the period when the town is lit up for Christmas this has been set for Wednesday 15th December.

The night has been a last minute addition to this year’s Christmas events but should provide everyone with the chance to do some vital Christmas shopping, whilst enjoying the beautiful Christmas Lights around the streets of Holt, following the switch on event.

Please spread the word – Wednesday 15th December will be late night opening in Holt (until 8pm).

Trees are vertical…

Holt Christmas Tree for 2010Thursday 18th, 8am Holt Town Centre, many hands on trunk to hoist this beast upright. Seeing was believing as Woodrowe’s builders chocked up Jonathan Neville’s (www.digitalwild.co.uk and www.norfolkmills.co.uk) donated tree into place at the War Memorial.

Woodrowe’s undertake dealing with our large trees every year – even before the lights were a twinkle in Holt’s eye – at least 20 years Mr Woodrowe thinks, and charge nothing for their heroic efforts.

At the end of their 6 weeks lit life, the trees will make their way to Holt Country Park to be ‘recycled’ into mulch.

THANK YOU WOODROWES – local firm, local boys, job well done! It is meeting and working with a team like these which has been the most rewarding part of my 4 year Committee tenure.

See them for all your building needs, they certainly know how to secure a 30ft tree!

Sarah,
Lights and Trees Liaison.

Tall Tree Delivery

Monday morning and large trees are making their way into Holt town centre.

One tree ex Hempstead bound for the War Memorial site, donated by Jonathan Neville, (check out his Norfolk Mills website). Another tree at Shirehall Plain brought in by The Christmas Shop/Dial-A-Worker and ably taken off the trailer by Stolworthy Electricians that were installing lights nearby.

Edgefield Nurseries will deliver more tomorrow, local builders Woodrowes will put them up as they do for free every year, C&O will light over the next few days. Exciting times to be lights liaison on the Committee, three local businesses and two local residents = a really great community effort – thank you all of you.

Sarah Tribe, Lights Liaison.
